Applications are invited for the position of Project Linked Person (Senior Project Associate) for extramural project to be executed by the BRIC-National institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani. Selected applicants will be appointed initially for one year. The tenure of appointment may be extended depending on performance and availability of funds. Project name: Integrative-genomics approach to identify and functionalize regulatory variants from GWAS data with applications to type-2 diabetes and coronary artery disease. PI-Dr. Samsiddhi Bhattacharjee Project Description: Genome-wide Association Studies (GWAS) have been successful in discovering thousands of genetic loci associated with various multifactorial diseases. Most GWAS discovered SNP-s tend to be in non-coding regions with unknown functional mechanism. It is important to generate reliable bioinformatic predictions about potential regulatory mechanisms before embarking on time and resource consuming functional validation experiments. In this project, we shall implement a novel integrative workflow for discovering causal regulatory variants and genes by combining statistical genomics models for post-GWAS fine-mapping, AI/ML guided prioritization and publicly available genomics datasets such as GWAS, eQTL, transcriptome and epigenome studies. The pipeline will be used to identify causal variants at transcription factor binding sites and their target genes for Type-2 Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease, some of which will be validated experimentally. The pipeline will be implemented for general use and disseminated publicly. Place of Work: BRIC-NIBMG, Kalyani 1 | P a g e
